Provincial Government Invites Applications for Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program

The Provincial Government is now inviting applications for this year’s Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program. Individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply for project funding before the application deadline on Friday, July 31.

“Community groups and organizations play an integral role in creating conditions that contribute to the optimal health and well-being of people. By working together, we can make a lasting contribution to the prevention of mental illness and addiction and in the promotion of positive mental health. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to submit an application and help make a difference in their communities.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services

The Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program is designed to support projects by individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations in the prevention of addictions and promotion of positive mental health. Total program funding of $140,000 is available.

“Now in its 10th year, approximately $1.26 million in grants has been awarded to date through the Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program to communities and organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. One in five people in our province live with a mental health or addiction issue. Investments in programs such as this one help prevent issues which is another important part of our continuum of mental health and addictions services.”
- Minister Kent

Program funding is administered by the Provincial Government in partnership with the four regional health authorities. Each regional health authority has dedicated addiction prevention and mental health promotion staff available to provide advice, support and resources to applicants. Projects should align with one or more of these six priority areas:

  • Increasing Awareness and Understanding of Problematic Substance Use;
  • Reducing Alcohol-Related Harms;
  • Developing Supportive Communities;
  • Mental Health Promotion;
  • Recreational Activities; and
  • Child/Parent/Family Development.
