Making Strategic Investments in Mental Health and Addictions

New Youth Treatment Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor Officially Named

A new treatment centre in Grand Falls-Windsor for youth with addictions was officially named today. Hope Valley Centre was completed in May 2014 and represents a strategic investment of $12.5 million to enhance mental health and addictions services in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"Over the years, our government has made significant investments in treatment centres throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The ability to receive treatment close to home, with the support of family and friends, is key to recovery. This new centre will enhance our ability to assist youth from around the province who are dealing with addictions issues. Its name, Hope Valley Centre, represents both its geographic location in the Exploits Valley, and the word hope speaks to the potential for recovery for those who use the facility's services."
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services

The Hope Valley Centre provides services for up to 12 residents under 18 years of age who require addictions treatment. The Hope Valley Centre complements the treatment centre in Paradise that provides services to youth with complex mental health needs.

"The Hope Valley Centre benefits not only youth in the region but throughout the entire province. Having these critical programs available will be a comfort to those who need these services and their families. I am proud of the investments that our government continues to make in addressing mental health and addictions.
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans

The floor plan includes three separate living quarters containing four bedrooms with private bathrooms, a kitchen and lounge area, educational space, multipurpose room, physical fitness room and a dedicated space for overnight stays for visiting family.

"In this region we have certainly seen the growing need for mental health services in recent years, including addictions treatment. We are pleased to have partnered with the Department of Health and Community Services to provide programs and services to youth, with the hope that the assistance they receive here will lead them to a better and brighter future."
