Promoting Agriculture in Newfoundland and Labrador

Province's Largest Fall Agricultural Event Begins in Corner Brook

The 2015 Agrifoods and Garden Show, opening today at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, is a great way for residents to become more familiar with a rapidly growing and constantly diversifying industry.

"The Provincial Government supported eight agricultural events in various areas of the province this fall. These events are very popular, attracting thousands of people who are interested in learning more about an industry that employs 6,500 men and women and together with agrifoods production is valued at nearly $500 million per year. I encourage everyone, whether they are visiting the show for the first time, or have visited in the past, to stop by the Corner Brook Civic Centre this weekend."
- The Honourable Vaughn Granter, Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency.

The 2015 Agrifoods and Garden Show opens today (Friday, October 16) at 3:00 p.m., and closes Sunday, October 18, at 5:00 p.m. The three-day event highlights the important role agriculture and agrifoods play in the local economy. It also promotes the industry and increases awareness of the kinds of products being produced in Newfoundland and Labrador.

During the weekend, a farmers' market will offer fresh vegetables and other products. There will be cooking demonstrations using local produce and child-friendly activities, such as an agricultural spelling bee and animal petting farm. One dollar from each admission ticket will go to the Westrock Community Centre Garden Project.

The AgriFoods and Garden Show is organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture. Information on the show is available at www.nlfa.ca
