Responsible Decisions Promote Equity for Residents

Provincial Government Removing the Tax on Feminine Hygiene Products

The Provincial Government is following the lead of the Federal Government and removing the provincial portion of tax on feminine hygiene products.

“As the Federal Government establishes the tax base, we are required to move in step with this type of change. We are fully supportive of the removal of the tax from these products which will put more money back in the pockets of the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board

Effective July 1, 2015, the tax will be removed from products that are marketed exclusively for feminine hygiene purposes, including sanitary napkins, tampons, sanitary belts, menstrual cups or other similar products.

“Our government continues to make strategic decisions that provide real benefits for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. We have implemented several initiatives which provide residents with more money to help with the increased cost of living. Since 2004, this government has put over $744 million back in the pockets of residents through tax reductions.”
- Minister Wiseman

Since 2004, tax benefits have included enhancements to the seniors benefit, reductions in the small business corporate income tax rates, and low income tax reductions enhancements.
