Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Mobile Quarry and Access Road                                                         (Reg. 1807)
Proponent: Lawlors Excavating Ltd.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct an access road to a new two hectare quarry site. This development is proposed in an area with four existing quarry access roads and a number of active quarries. The proposed road also passes within 10 metres of a waterbody. Operations would occur from May to November each year and would involve screening and loading of sand and gravel.

The undertaking was registered on August 28, 2015; the deadline for public comments is October 5, 2015; and the ministers decision is due by October 12, 2015.

Crown District 2 Forestry Operating Plan Amendment (2012-2016)                         (Reg. 1806)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Forestry Service

The proponent has submitted a proposal to amend the Crown Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 2, harvesting block CO234, for commercial harvesting. This harvesting block is located near Lethbridge on the Bonavista Peninsula. The amendment is required to provide a harvest area for a new commercial operator who has been allocated a 500 cubic metre annual permit. The amendment will provide access to an additional 49 hectares of forested land and 3,000 cubic metres of harvestable timber in an area adjacent to the operators commercial sawmill. The districts sustainable harvest level will not be exceeded as harvesting will be reduced elsewhere in the district. Access to the area will be via existing forest access trails. Harvesting is expected to be completed during the current Five Year Forest Management Plan for District 2.

The undertaking was registered on August 28, 2015; the deadline for public comments is October 5, 2015; and the ministers decision is due by October 12, 2015.
