Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Millers Waters Cottage Development Road           (Reg. 1795)
Proponent: Mr. Kerry Noble

The proponent proposes to extend an existing road by seven hundred metres to allow access to an already approved cottage development area from the Trans Canada Highway. The project is approximately five kilometres west of Gander, north of the Trans Canada Highway, near Millers Waters.

The undertaking was registered on June 16, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 22, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by July 30, 2015.

St. Lawrence AGS Vein Fluorspar Mine           (Reg. 1794)
Proponent: Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc.

The proponent proposes to develop a surface and underground fluorspar mine in St. Lawrence on the Burin Peninsula. The project includes construction and operation of a surface and underground mine of the AGS Vein, a mill facility, a tailings management facility/lagoon, ancillary infrastructure, and a marine terminal at Blue Beach Cove. The ancillary infrastructure to support the mine and mill will include access roads, conveyors, administration building, warehouse and maintenance building, concentrate storage building, etc. Construction of the mine is expected to begin in late 2015 and be completed in 2017.

The undertaking was registered on June 12, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 22, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by July 27, 2015.

Walsh River Bridge Area Quarry Expansion           (Reg. 1793)
Proponent: Grey Rock Services Inc.

The proponent proposes to develop a 10 hectare quarry approximately 1.4 kilometres north of Walsh River Bridge, on the Trans Labrador Highway approximately five kilometres west of Labrador City. The operation will consist of drilling and blasting, crushing, screening and possibly washing of aggregate with the purpose of supplying the local concrete/asphalt and construction aggregate market. The expected period of operation is between May and December yearly for aggregate production with hauling of stockpiled material to occur year-round.

The undertaking was registered on June 12, 2015; the deadline for public comments is July 22, 2015; and the minister�s decision is due by July 27, 2015.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT GUIDELINES ISSUED:

Long Pond Weir           (Reg. 1783)
Proponent: City of St. John's

The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the Long Pond Weir project. The EPR guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to include in the EPR.
