Acknowledging Environmental Achievements

Environment Week Celebrates Commitment to Protecting the Environment

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, is reminding all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador that June 1-7 is Environment Week in Canada.

Since 1972, people worldwide have celebrated June 5 as Environment Day. Here in Canada, the entire first week of June is recognized as Environment Week a time to acknowledge accomplishments in protecting the environment as well as to promote and educate residents about actions they can take to help ensure a sustainable province for future generations.
- The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation

On June 5, the Department of Environment and Conservation, in partnership with the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board and the Newfoundland and Labrador Womens Institutes, will host the 26th annual Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Awards ceremony. The luncheon and awards ceremony will take place at Pippy Park Golf Course and will acknowledge seven outstanding environmental leaders.

I am certainly looking forward to the upcoming Environmental Awards ceremony. It is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the important contributions of individuals, schools, groups and businesses that are all doing their part to ensure a sustainable environment for future generations of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
