Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Dan Crummell, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Big Brook Junction Quarries               (Reg. 1780)
Proponent: Maurice's Service Centre Ltd.

The proponent proposes to develop two quarries near the northern tip of the Great Northern Peninsula. Each quarry, separated by an adjacent operating quarry will use separate existing access roads. Combined with the existing quarries, the total development area will exceed 10 hectares. The quarry materials will be used for cement aggregate, P-Stone and Drainage Rock Class A.

The undertaking was registered on February 6, 2015; the deadline for public comments is March 13, 2015; and the minister's decision is due by March 22, 2015.


Labrador West - Block 103 Mineral Exploration
              (Reg. 1781)
Proponent: Cap-Ex Iron Ore Ltd.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to carry out mineral exploration assessment work in western Labrador, 35 kilometres northwest of Schefferville, Quebec. The main physical features created during the undertaking will be 4.2 kilometres of access trails required to bring in equipment for drilling. All trails will have skidded equipment with a small bulldozer pulling to minimize the overall disturbance. Other work to be conducted includes trenching and the rehabilitation of all disturbances upon completion of the exploration program. The period of operation will be limited to the work permits which coincide with the year end, December 2015.
