Young Leaders Building Strong Communities
Provincial Government Recognizes Students for Contributions to Safe and Caring School Communities
Fourteen students from across the province are receiving the Safe and Caring Schools Graduating Student Awards. The awards recognize students for their leadership in making their school communities more safe, caring and inclusive.
I congratulate the recipients of this years Safe and Caring Schools Graduating Student Awards for their efforts to support respectful learning environments. This years winners have clearly demonstrated leadership in fostering inclusive practices and creating safe and caring schools. I encourage all students, teachers, parents and community leaders to reinforce the message of respect for others at home and within our communities.
- The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Acting Minister of Education
The Safe and Caring Schools Graduating Student Awards were established in 2006. The awards recognize the leadership of youth in undertaking projects and activities aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of their school communities and help highlight the important message that students can make a positive difference in the lives of others. Each student recipient will receive a $500 post-secondary tuition voucher for their efforts.
A list of award recipients from across the province can be viewed in the backgrounder below.
The award program goes hand-in-hand with the Safe and Caring Schools Special Project Awards, which earlier this year saw 40 schools receive $500 each in recognition of their individual efforts to establish safe and caring learning environments. Over $27,000 is allocated annually for both initiatives.
