Improving Community School Infrastructure

Contract Awarded for Upgrades to Lumsden Academy

A contract valued at over $170,000 has been awarded for electrical upgrades at Lumsden Academy in Lumsden.

"This project is another example of an investment in existing school infrastructure to ensure that students and staff have a safe and comfortable learning environment. With this latest contract awarded, more than $425,000 has been allocated for improvements to Lumsden Academy over the past number of years bringing the total investment for schools in Bonavista North to over $4.5 million."

Industrial Commercial Maintenance Ltd. has been awarded the contract and the project is expected to start in late spring. Lumsden Academy accommodates over 70 students from Kindergarten to Grade 9.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested more than $681 million in K-12 infrastructure to ensure students and teachers continue to enjoy safe and healthy learning environments. Fourteen new schools have been opened; eight more are in various stages of planning or construction; 27 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, with 10 more are underway; and approximately 1,900 repairs and maintenance projects have been completed.
