Promoting the Safety and Well-being of Children and Youth

Violence Awareness Week Celebrated in Schools Province-Wide

February 22-28 is Violence Awareness Week in Newfoundland and Labrador schools. To recognize the work of schools this week and all year round to support a safe and caring environment, the Provincial Government is announcing a total of $20,000 in Safe and Caring Special Project Awards to 40 schools throughout the province.

“The Provincial Government is committed to creating and maintaining safe, caring and inclusive school environments free from bullying. This week gives all of us, especially parents, teachers and students, an opportunity to reflect on how we can contribute to a positive school community for our young people. The Safe and Caring Special Project Awards are designed to promote and support our Safe and Caring Schools policy. Each of the 40 schools will receive $500 to assist in fostering a safe and caring school environment through school-based projects. I congratulate all the schools participating in this year’s awards for submitting such a diverse list of proposals and for recognizing that there are many ways to build an inclusive school climate free of violence.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development
