Celebrating Those Committed to Student Success

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week Recognizes Dedication in Schools

Every day thousands of teachers and school staff throughout Newfoundland and Labrador inspire and motivate students to succeed and this week is a time to celebrate those dedicated professionals. National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is being held from February 8 to 14.

The professional and personal contributions of our teachers and school staff have a tremendous influence on young people they shape how our students see themselves, how they learn, the success they achieve, and the kind of person they will become. Its the leadership and collective expertise of these dedicated professionals that helps ensure our students have an educational foundation that will serve them well into the future. This week provides all of us an opportunity to celebrate our teachers and school staff and to say thank you for all they do throughout the year to create a welcoming school community.
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was initiated by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988 as a means to encourage parents, and the wider school community, to recognize the contributions that teachers and school staff members make to children and their education.

Teachers and staff go the extra mile on a regular basis to help our students be the best they can be. There are great things happening in classrooms throughout this province and many impressive stories about teachers and school staff that are really making a difference in the lives of children. Their dedication and hard work is vital to ensuring that students have the skills necessary to one day be leaders in our community. I encourage school councils, parents and students to express their appreciation to all teachers and school staff for their daily personal and professional contributions, not only this week, but throughout the entire year.
- Peter Whittle, President, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils
