Government Invests to Support Port Expansion in Placentia Bay

The Harbour Authority of Arnolds Cove will expand its docking facilities as the busy port looks ahead to meeting increased commercial, industrial, and recreational demand. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is supporting the authority with $66,000 for the project.

This is a growing marina utilized by a variety of customers including recreational boaters from the area as well as tourists. A variety of industrial and commercial customers also use this facility and the demand for berthing area has increased over the last number of years. This is a sound investment in the future success of this facility and will provide a boost for the local economy.
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development

The project will see an expansion of floating docks to provide more berthage for recreational boaters, which will free more space for commercial traffic. The expansion is scheduled for this spring and will include the installation of eight floating docks.

After much collaboration with the harbour authority, boaters association and the Town of Arnolds Cove, I am very pleased with the governments commitment to fund this project. Demand for space in this harbor is growing as we see an increase in marine traffic in Placentia Bay. This is a successful port and this investment will help the harbor authority expand facilities to better meet the needs of all users.
- Calvin Peach, MHA Bellevue
