Auditor General Tables Report on Reviews of Departments and Crown Agencies

In his report to the House of Assembly on Reviews of Departments and Crown Agencies tabled in the House of Assembly today in St. John�s, Auditor General, Terry Paddon, reports on 10 reviews completed on Government departments and Crown agencies. The report contains 71 recommendations, directed to Government and the Crown agencies, aimed at strengthening financial and operational processes and controls. In addition, the report contains 215 findings which arose during the reviews.

�The work of the Office of the Auditor General is an integral part of the accountability and oversight of Government,� said Mr. Paddon. �The work is intended to ensure taxpayer resources are being spent in the most effective manner possible.�

The Report of the Auditor General contains the results of reviews of:

  • Labour Market Development Agreement
  • Financial Assistance to Business
  • Teacher Professional Development
  • Office of the Chief Information Officer
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program
  • Nutrition in Long-term Care Facilities
  • Personal Care Home Regulation
  • Municipal Infrastructure
  • Pension Plan Regulation
  • Use of External Consultants
Each item in the report outlines the objectives of the review and the conclusions reached, in addition to recommendations and findings.

�I encourage Government and Crown entities to carefully consider the recommendations in the report and to act appropriately to implement them,� concluded the Auditor General.
