Supporting Residents for Stronger Communities

$3.4 Million Enhances Work Experience through Job Creation

The Provincial Government has completed the final round of Job Creation Partnerships applications for 2015-16 with 89 projects approved representing in total of $3.4 million in funding. These employment opportunities are helping an estimated 430 individuals throughout 80 communities, who are using their skills to support projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This brings the total spending in 2015 to $10.15 million, which has benefited 1,300 individuals who worked on 267 projects in 171 communities.

The Provincial Government is committed to partnering with municipalities and local organizations to complete projects that touch several sectors, including tourism, culture and heritage, sports and recreation and economic development."

Projects include:

• $27,388 to Cain's Quest in Labrador City to assist with race preparations and to hire a coordinator to oversee all activities related to the event;
• $15,249 to the St. Lawrence Historical Advisory Committee for improvements and repairs to the Cape Trail;
• $25,902 to the Colony of Avalon in Ferryland to hire staff to assist with the continued archaeological excavations of Lord Baltimore's Pool Plantation in Ferryland; and
• $25,293 to the Exploits Trailnet Inc. in Grand Falls-Windsor to improve snowmobile trails, bridges, signage and warm-up shelters in the central region for tourism and local use.

Job Creation Partnerships is funded through the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement. Funding is provided through direct contributions to sponsors or through the extension of Employment Insurance benefits for project participants and may include in-kind or in-cash contributions from sponsors. These employment opportunities support initiatives of the Workforce Development Action Plan under the Population Growth Strategy.
