Dismantling of Former AbitibiBowater Mill in Grand Falls-Windsor to Begin in New Year
The Provincial Government has selected Delsan-A.I.M. Environmental Services (Delsan-A.I.M.) in response to a request for proposals to dismantle the former AbitibiBowater mill site. The complete dismantling of the mill site is expected to take 18 months with the company set to begin detailed work planning in January 2015.
Delsan-A.I.M. will salvage and re-sell equipment and materials. In return, the Provincial Government will receive $500,000 and a percentage of any profits realized by the company, which will be confirmed in the final contract details. The dismantling will come at no cost to the taxpayers of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The scope of the contract will include removal of the structures on the former mill site. Once the mill site is taken down to grade level, discussions will occur with local and regional stakeholders, including the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, on future uses of the site and possible in-ground remediation.

Based in Montreal, Delsan-A.I.M. has extensive experience in the demolition of industrial properties, including other paper mills in Canada, with the ability to resell existing assets for revenue.

The Department of Transportation and Works is responsible for managing and maintaining approximately 640,000 square metres of floor space, consisting of more than 870 buildings on 366 sites.
