Public Advisory: Update Provided on Repairs to Placentia Lift Bridge

The Department of Transportation and Works is advising that repairs are continuing to the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge in Placentia. While that work is ongoing the bridge remains closed and vehicular traffic continues to be detoured to Southeast Placentia Road.

Late Monday, August 4, the bridge deck was successfully re-positioned to road height. Today (Tuesday, August 5) work is underway to repair damage resulting from the extra loads being applied to cable connections following the mechanical failure.

The Department of Transportation and Works continues to be in close communication with the Town of Placentia. Earlier this afternoon, an update was provided to the mayor, council members, and town officials and options are continuing to be explored to get fishing vessels currently docked in Placentia out of the harbour.
