Public Advisory: Lift Bridge in Placentia Remains Temporarily Closed

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge remains temporarily closed with vehicular traffic detoured to Southeast Placentia Road.

On Sunday, August 3, a mechanical issue on the Sir Ambrose Shea Lift Bridge resulted in one end of the bridge being raised and the other lowered. The bridge did not collapse and remains structurally sound.

The department is currently mobilizing equipment to re-position the deck to accommodate vehicular traffic as quickly as possible. The bridge will remain closed to marine traffic until the mechanical issue is addressed.

Construction on the new $40.6 million lift bridge in Placentia continues and is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
