Public Advisory: Labrador Marine Service Update

The Department of Transportation and Works advises of the following updates for Labrador marine services:

  • The MV Northern Ranger will depart Lewisporte for Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Friday, July 4, with stops in Black Tickle, Cartwright and Rigolet. Schedules for northbound and southbound travel will be updated accordingly.
  • Perishable freight is now accepted for Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, and Black Tickle. Dry freight is now accepted for Nain and Natuashish.
  • The MV Astron is scheduled to depart Lewisporte on Tuesday, July 1, with dry freight for all ports. Perishable freight will be shipped to Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, and Black Tickle.
  • Temporary air services will be in place for residents on Wednesday, July 2, and Thursday, July 3. Service will begin in Happy Valley-Goose Bay with stops in Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, Natuashish, and Nain.

For information related to freight schedules, passenger service on the MV Northern Ranger, and temporary air service, please contact Nunatsiavut Marine at 1-855-896-2262 or by visiting www.labradorferry.ca EXTERNAL. The fare for travelling via aircraft will remain the same as it was for travelling on the ferry, but travellers must pay with cash.

As ice conditions continue to pose challenges, Federal and Provincial Government air subsidies remain in place for retailers to help offset the cost of air freight on such products as fresh milk and perishable food items. Ice conditions continue to be closely monitored.
