Strengthening Regional Transportation Infrastructure

$7.7 million Tender Awarded for Upgrades to Route 500 in Labrador West

A tender for $7.7 million has been awarded to Grey Rock Services to rehabilitate approximately 15 kilometres of Route 500 in Labrador West. The early awarding of the tender will enable Grey Rock Services to better utilize Labrador’s road construction season.

“Labrador West is home to exciting mining and commercial activities which are creating new opportunities for residents and small businesses. This investment of $7.7 million for improvements on Route 500 highlights our government’s commitment to ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place for residents to fully benefit from the region’s industrial activity.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works

Upgrades to the approximately 15 kilometres of highway will begin in the coming weeks and extend two road construction seasons.

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook provides more than $81 million for upgrades and enhancements to the provincial highways, roads and bridges throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. An early tendering approach this year ensures that road work construction will begin earlier than previous years and the full utilization of the construction season.
