Regional Investments Support Provincial Transportation Network

Tenders to be Released for Bridge and Road Upgrades in District of Ferryland

The replacement of the Northeast Trepassey Bridge and the rehabilitation of the Bay Bulls River Bridge on Route 10 are some of the road enhancement initiatives to be completed this road construction season in the district of Ferryland. These upgrades to the region’s transportation infrastructure follow the March 25, 2014, announcement that the Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive will be extended.

“This year we are putting an aggressive plan in place to upgrade road and bridge infrastructure in communities and regions throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Supported by a Budget 2014 investment of more than $81 million, we are releasing tenders earlier than in years past so contractors can get a head start on replacing and rehabilitating bridges, as well as advancing road improvement initiatives, such as the extension of the Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works

In addition to bridge replacement and rehabilitation, approximately 5.5 kilometres of asphalt leveling will occur on areas of Route 10, between Bay Bulls and Witless Bay, as well as repairs at Ferryland and Petty Harbour and replacement of culverts near Lamanche Bridge, Trepassey and St. Shott’s.

“Transportation infrastructure is essential to our region as it provides residents access to needed services and supports the fishery, tourism and manufacturing industries. I look forward to building on the transportation infrastructure improvements of past years.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Ferryland

Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes infrastructure investments totalling $852.7 million, which reflects the significance of a well-developed transportation network and access to infrastructure to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
