Public Advisory: Extreme Ice Conditions Force an Interruption in Service for Strait of Belle Isle

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that due to extreme ice conditions in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and in the Strait of Belle Isle, the MV Sir Robert Bond will temporarily suspend service following its anticipated arrival in Blanc Sablon this evening.

Canadian Coast Guard officials have advised that due to the severe ice conditions, pending weather and intense requirements for ice breaker assistance in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, it is likely to be at least one week before ice breaker assistance can return to support the MV Sir Robert Bond.

Ice conditions are being monitored daily and further updates will be made as circumstances change.

The Department of Transportation and Works apologizes for any inconvenience to ferry users and appreciates their patience and cooperation during these extreme weather conditions.

Reservations or information for the MV Sir Robert Bond service can be obtained by calling CAI Nunatsiavut Marine at 1-855-896-2262 within Canada, or 1-709-896-2262, or by visiting www.labradorferry.ca.
