The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador Holding Provincial Table Tennis and
Wrestling Tournaments this Weekend

Dorset Collegiate in Pilley’s Island is the host school for the Provincial Table Tennis Championships. Six teams will be competing to determine the team champion. Teams competing are from the following schools: Jane Collins Academy (Hare Bay), Viking Trail Academy (Plum Point), Jens Haven Memorial (Nain) and the host, Dorset Collegiate. The team encounters began at 9:45 a.m. today
 
There is also an individual competition taking place that will feature athletes from the above named schools, as well as, Glovertown Academy, Cape John Collegiate (LaScie), and Indian River High (Springdale). Individual events include boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles. Individual event round robin schedule will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22.
 
Roncalli High in Avondale is the host school for the provincial wrestling tournament. Provincial champions will be declared in the following weight classes for boys: 35 kg, 38 kg, 40 kg, 42 kg, 46 kg, 52 kg, 55 kg, 58 kg, 62 kg, 66 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 78 kg, 82 kg, 86 kg, 95 kg, HWT. The weight classes for the girls include: 39 kg, 41 kg, 43 kg, 45 kg, 47 kg, 50 kg, 53 kg, 56 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 71 kg, 75 kg, 80+ kg. There must be two wrestlers in a weight class in order for a weight class to proceed. Schools that will take part in the individual competition include:
 
There will be provincial teams declared in both boys and girls. Schools competing include: The host school, Roncalli High, St. Bonaventures College (St. John’s), Mount Pearl Senior High, Crescent Collegiate (Blaketown), St. James Regional High (Port aux Basques) and Sheshatshiu Innu School.
 
Winning individuals will receive gold, silver and bronze medals. Gold and silver medals will be presented in the team events, as well a championship banner awarded to the winning team. School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador believes strongly in the values and principles of sportsmanship. In recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be presented to one deserving person from each team. All teams (coaches and players) will vote to recognize a team who has displayed great sportsmanship, as well. This team is awarded the Team Sportsmanship Banner.
