Provincial Government Releases Feedback on Municipal Fiscal Framework
With the consultation phase of the Provincial Municipal Fiscal Framework review complete, the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, released today the “What We Heard” document.
“I thank all stakeholders who participated in the consultations. This is an important part of our work on the development of a new Provincial Municipal Fiscal Framework which will be ready to inform Budget 2015. The in-depth feedback has been instrumental in assisting the department in looking for efficient and effective ways for services to be delivered, paid for, and shared in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs
The Provincial Municipal Fiscal Framework consultation reached approximately 500 individuals and stakeholders in the municipal sector, including local service district chairs or committee members and members of rural secretariat regional councils. Written and in-person input from the business, construction and hospitality sectors, as well as the public, through online submissions and a telephone survey, was also compiled. In addition, the department conducted significant research and analysis, including interviews with other provinces and territories, to learn from their approaches and experiences.
“We were pleased to partner with the Department of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs to undertake consultations throughout the province on the Provincial Municipal Fiscal Framework. I am certain the department has captured everything they have heard and I am glad that the public will get an opportunity to see the perspectives put forth of the various participants. I am confident that the feedback received will be fully considered as government finalizes its work on a new fiscal framework relationship between the province and our municipalities.”
- Churence Rogers, President, Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador
