Investing in Fire Equipment Supports Public Safety
District of Ferryland Receives Over $225,000 for Firefighting Equipment
The Provincial Government is investing more than $225,000 to enhance firefighting capabilities in the District of Ferryland. The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and MHA for the District of Ferryland, have announced that funding is being provided for the purchase of a rescue vehicle and fire equipment for several communities in the district.
“In order to provide critical firefighting services to residents of the province, the Provincial Government has committed to investing in modern tools and equipment. This investment of more than $225,000 will significantly enhance the ability of firefighters to protect residents within the District of Ferryland from the tragedy of fire and other crisis situations.”

The Provincial Government has allocated nearly $175,000 for the purchase of a rescue vehicle for the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department. The remaining funding will be used for the purchase of extrication equipment for Fermeuse, two sets of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBAs) for the Town of Ferryland, four sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for St. Shott’s, and two sets of SCBAs for Trepassey.
“This investment in fire and emergency equipment is crucial to building and maintaining our inventory of emergency equipment for our volunteer firefighters so they are fully equipped to carry out their duties. This year's investment in an emergency vehicle and other important equipment builds on previous years’ investments in our emergency equipment in Ferryland District.”

The vehicle and equipment for each community will be cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the communities covering the remaining 10 per cent. Detailed information on these investments is contained in the backgrounder below.
