Making Communities Safer by Investing in Fire Protection

District of Port de Grave Receives Funding for New Equipment

The Honourable Judy Manning, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that approximately $27,000 is being provided for the purchase of firefighting equipment in the District of Port de Grave.

This funding will support firefighters in the District of Port de Grave for many years to come, and I look forward to working with communities throughout the region on issues related to safety.”

The funding will be used to purchase a radio communications repeater for Spaniard’s Bay, 10 Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) air cylinders and 10 sets of Personal Protective Equipment for Bay Roberts, and 14 SCBA air cylinders for Upper Island Cove.

The equipment for each community will be cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and communities covering the remaining 10 per cent. Detailed information on these investments is contained in the backgrounder below.
