Investing in Health Services a Benefit to Families and Communities

$52,000 Invested in Patient Services for Health Centre in St. Lawrence

The U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence will benefit from an investment of $52,000 for patient service equipment.

“We provide a variety of quality health care services to all patients who are treated in our hospitals and health centres. This ranges from medical care to food services and comfortable settings for patients. This $52,000 investment in the U.S. Memorial Health Centre will provide new equipment for meal preparation and laundry services which will improve our overall continuum of care.”
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Health and Community Services

The health centre will receive a steam sterilization table and dishwasher for use in patient food preparation and a commercial washer and dryer for laundry services.

“Providing essential services to patients in all regions of our province is a priority for our government. This investment in the U.S. Memorial Health Centre will help ensure that all levels of care required by patients treated at this health centre are met.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education and MHA for Grand Bank

The U.S. Memorial Health Centre is a 40-bed facility that provides emergency services, long-term care, x-ray, blood collection and diagnostic imaging. The original facility was opened in 1954 as a thank you to the residents of the region, from the United States government, for helping rescue the surviving sailors of the USS Pollux and USS Truxton in 1942.

“Support services play an important role in our ability to provide patients with safe and quality care. This investment in service equipment at this facility further demonstrates the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing quality, safe and sustainable care. On behalf of Eastern Health, I thank the Provincial Government for their continued support.”
- Don Keats, Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Health

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested nearly $1.5 billion in health care infrastructure. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes a total investment of over $189 million in infrastructure, which allocates $119 million for continuing construction and redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs and renovations.
