Enhancements to Health Care Services Strengthen Communities and Families

Western Region Health Care Centres Receive $506,000 Investment

To enhance health care services in the western region, the Provincial Government is investing $506,000 for renovations, repairs and health care equipment at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders and the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Point.

The Bonne Bay Health Centre will benefit from a total investment of $393,000 to install a new control system which will improve energy efficiency, as well as to facilitate repairs to the exterior of the facility including doors and siding. This funding will also be used to purchase electronic blood pressure monitors, specialized ultra-low patient beds, and seven electric examination tables which will improve the ability of health care workers to examine patients.

The Rufus Guinchard Health Centre will receive $113,000 to renovate the front registration area of the medical records department to improve privacy. Three specialized geriatric chairs, three wheelchairs, a vital signs monitor, three ceiling track lifts, and specialized ultra-low patient beds will also be purchased.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested nearly $1.5 billion in health care infrastructure in Newfoundland and Labrador. Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook includes a total investment of over $189 million in infrastructure, which allocates $119 million for continuing construction and redevelopment, $50.5 million for new equipment and $20 million for repairs and renovations.
