Research Leads to Community Improvements

Participation Requested in Survey Targeting Labrador Snowmobile Trail Users

In the coming weeks, the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office will conduct a survey of Labrador winter snowmobile trail users to identify opportunities to improve the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy.

“The Provincial Government invests $350,000 annually to groom the snowmobile trails from isolated Labrador communities to the nearest service centre, which provides a key link between communities without road transportation during the winter months. This important survey will ensure that any advancements relating to the program are well-informed and will bring the best possible benefits to the trail users and service providers.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs

Trail users must register to receive the survey. Communities will begin receiving registration forms this week. Completed registration forms should be returned by mail by July 25, using the postage paid envelope included with the registration form.

Following are the methods by which the registration forms will be available:

  • For the north coast communities of Nain, Hopedale, Postville, Makkovik and Rigolet, registration forms can be obtained at the local Inuit Community Government Office.
  • For residents of Natuashish, registration forms can be obtained at the Mushuau Innu First Nation Band office.
  • For residents of Mud Lake, Black Tickle, William’s Harbour and Norman Bay, registration forms will be hand-delivered.

“Our government values the input of residents and believes that by seeking their feedback, we can continue to provide a beneficial Transportation Grooming Subsidy and a well-maintained and safe winter trail network.”
- Minister McGrath

Once the survey registration process is complete, participants will be contacted and given the option to complete the survey in person, by mail or by telephone. For more information regarding registration, trail users can call the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office at 1-888-435-8111.
