Premier Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Winston White

The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today expressed sadness at the passing of Winston White, broadcaster, writer, public employee and passionate Labradorian.

“Labrador has lost a devoted son and dedicated advocate. Winston’s understanding of and passion for Labrador are captured in the two familiar words he used to describe it: Big Land. Through this simple and insightful phrase, now used widely across Canada, Winston left his mark on the people of Labrador, Newfoundland and the whole country,” said Premier Marshall

The Premier expressed condolences to Mr. White’s family and friends.

“At this time of sadness, I offer on behalf of the people of the province, whether we live on the island or in Labrador, heartfelt sympathy and condolences to all who knew and loved Winston,” said the Premier. “He leaves a wonderful body of work from a life devoted to his home.”

Mr. White was a former candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party in the District of Torngat Mountains.
