“I am honoured to be a part of the official opening of the new Grenfell Residence Complex. I am delighted both as the member of the House of Assembly for Humber East and in my new role as Premier to see this beautiful building added to our post-secondary infrastructure in Corner Brook. This is a modern residence for students to call home while furthering their education. This new residence demonstrates the Provincial Government’s commitment to provide affordable on-campus student housing and ensures students have the best experience while getting a high-quality post-secondary education.”
- The Honourable Tom Marshall, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador
The Grenfell Residence Complex is a modern, state-of-the-art building that features energy efficient mechanical systems, and it is the largest building in Newfoundland and Labrador to have an Insulate Concrete Forms system, which delivers a foundation or wall that is energy efficient and has superior fire resistant and sound suppression. It has five floors with 200 rooms and a lounge and kitchen on each floor providing areas for students to gather for meals and to socialize. There are laundry and storage facilities with an area for recreational gear. A partnership between Grenfell Campus and College of the North Atlantic (CNA) allows 23 of those rooms to be available for CNA students.
“I am delighted to be a part of the opening of this beautiful new residence for students at Grenfell Campus. Students are the future of Newfoundland and Labrador and this government is committed to providing them with the post-secondary education they need to enter the workforce and contribute to this vibrant economy. The Grenfell Residence Complex provides them with safe, comfortable living and the facilities they need while pursuing their post-secondary education.”
- The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills
The Provincial Government continues to lead the way in making post-secondary education one of the most affordable and accessible in Canada, ensuring more students than ever before are completing their post-secondary education in Newfoundland and Labrador, ultimately contributing to a vibrant economy.
“With the opening of the Grenfell’s new Residence Complex, students here have more options for safe living on campus. Living directly on campus puts students right at the heart of the university. By living in residence, they have an opportunity to live and learn surrounded by the supports of campus. Students living in residence become part of a community and build a support network that proves essential to success throughout their university careers.”
- Dr. Gary Kachanoski, President and Vice-Chancellor of Memorial University
Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
