Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Wabush Mountain Aggregate Quarry Expansion Project             (Reg. 1748)
Proponent: Grey Rock Services Inc.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to expand an existing 10 hectare quarry operation by 20 hectares. There will be three quarry permits associated with this new 30 hectare quarrying area located approximately 11 kilometres east of Cliff’s Underpass on the Trans Labrador Highway in western Labrador. Work will consist of drilling, blasting, crushing, screening and washing of aggregate for purposes of supplying the local concrete, asphalt and construction market. This operation would operate between May 1 and December 31 annually.

The undertaking was registered on February 27, 2014; the deadline for public comments is April 3, 2014; and the minister’s decision is due by April 12, 2014.
