Meeting the Needs of Growing Communities

Tender Awarded for Extension to Elizabeth Park Elementary, Paradise

An eight-classroom extension will soon be constructed at Elizabeth Park Elementary in Paradise, following the recent award of a tender, valued at almost $2.3 million, to Redwood Construction Ltd. of Mount Pearl. The extension will increase capacity of the school to accommodate population growth in the area.

“Elizabeth Park Elementary was originally constructed with the intention to build an extension as the school population increased. This particular project will see eight classrooms added to the existing infrastructure. The core of the school – space other than classrooms such as the library and gymnasium – was built large enough to anticipate such growth.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education

Since 2004, over $19.4 million has been allocated for school infrastructure in the District of Mount Pearl North including:

  • Over $16.1 million for the construction/expansion of Elizabeth Park Elementary;
  • Over $800,000 for roofing enhancements, as well as interior and exterior upgrades to Mary Queen of the World; and
  • Almost $2.5 million for roofing, windows and interior upgrades to Mount Pearl Senior High (the former Mount Pearl Intermediate).

“The expansion of Elizabeth Park Elementary is testament to a strong economy and the arrival of many young families to the area. I look forward to seeing the extension take shape and to seeing this school serve area residents for many years to come.”
– Steve Kent, MHA for Mount Pearl North
