Over $1 Million in Transportation Upgrades Near Completion in Trinity North

Construction crews are busy in the Trinity North area with the awarding of recent tenders valued at more than $1 million. The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works, joined the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Speaker of the House of Assembly and MHA for Trinity North, to make the announcement today in Clarenville.

“This investment of more than $1 million, like the many others being made throughout the province this year, is helping to build stronger communities and encourage job creation,” said Minister McGrath. “Since 2004, we have invested more than $1.1 billion to upgrade over 2,200 kilometres of highways and roads on the island portion of the province, significantly improving the overall transportation network for the benefit of motorists today, and into the future.”

Farrell’s Excavating has been contracted to cold plane and repave sections of the Trans-Canada Highway between Route 210, the Burin Peninsula Highway, and Route 230, the Bonavista Peninsula Highway, with a contract value of $711,586.

J-1 Contracting Limited has been contracted to repair guiderails between Dunfield and Trouty as well as resurfacing sections of Route 231-10 through Snook’s Harbour. The value of this contract is $373,616.

“I am very pleased to see continued infrastructure improvements taking place in Trinity North,” said Mr. Wiseman. “These upgrades will not only benefit area residents, but also the local tourism industry.”

Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, Provincial Government spending will exceed $866 million in infrastructure investments to help drive economic activity and generate 5,330 person years of employment.
