Over $1.4 Million in Road Work Announced for Central

Residents in central Newfoundland will see more road work taking place as the Provincial Government continues to advance the 2013-14 provincial roads program with two recent tender contracts worth $1.4 million.

“Our government is pleased to be upgrading transportation infrastructure throughout the province this construction season,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works. “In addition to providing an improved transportation network for residents and visitors, road work projects like these generate important employment opportunities for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”

Provincial Paving Limited has been contracted to make improvements along 3.1 kilometres of Route 380, Pilley’s Island Road, with a contract value of $944,901. Subgrade work has begun and paving is expected to be completed by the third week of September.

Penney Paving Limited has received a contract valued at $514,926 to upgrade a section of Wooddale Road, with a start date for this project scheduled for mid-September.

“I am pleased to see our government’s commitment to improving our road and highway infrastructure,” said Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South. “These investments provide safer roads throughout the province.”

Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, Provincial Government spending will exceed $866 million on infrastructure projects and will generate 5,330 person years of employment. Investments are being made in all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador in key areas such as roads, bridges, marine services, health, education, municipal works, buildings and aquaculture.
