Over $900,000 in Upgrades for Buchans Highway
Construction will soon begin on the Buchans Highway with the recent awarding
of a contract to J-1 Contracting Ltd. valued at just over $900,000. The
Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works, announced the
contract today in Grand Falls-Windsor.
“Infrastructure investments like this $900,000 contract are taking place
throughout the province, as we continue to roll out the 2013-14 provincial
roads program,” said Minister Davis. “Every kilometre of new asphalt
represents our government’s commitment to rural Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The tender calls for the pulverization and paving of 3.7 kilometres of the
Buchan’s Highway, Route 370. J-1 Contracting Ltd. is set to begin
construction on September 9.
“I am very pleased to see improvements taking place on the Buchans Highway,”
said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community
Services and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans. “This is a very
important piece of transportation infrastructure and these improvements will
benefit the residents of Buchans.”
Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, Provincial Government
spending will exceed $866 million on infrastructure projects and will
generate 5,330 person years of employment. Investments are being made in all
regions of Newfoundland and Labrador in key areas such as roads, bridges,
marine services, health, education, municipal works, buildings and
aquaculture.
