Road Repairs Continue on the Burin Peninsula

The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works, joined the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West, and the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and MHA for Grand Bank, to tour areas on the Burin Peninsula today to assess the scope of damage following the weekend rain storm.

“Although all provincial roads are open and accessible throughout the peninsula, there is considerable work that needs to be done,” said Minister Davis. “Construction crews continue to make immediate short-term repairs and engineering teams are conducting assessments in preparation for the issue of emergency tenders for long-term fixes.”

The ministers met with mayors, councillors and others affected by the flash flooding and had the opportunity to view damage caused by the storm throughout the region.

“The safety of our employees and the safety of the travelling public is our number one priority,” said Minister Davis. “We ask motorists to reduce speed, drive with extra caution and respect all signage as they approach all flag persons and construction zones.”
