Information Provided on Labrador West Water Bomber Incident

At approximately 3:30 p.m. today, the Department of Transportation and Works was notified that a Bombardier 415 waterbomber aircraft was involved in an incident while picking up water at Moosehead Lake in Labrador West. The aircraft was being used in forest fire suppression operations in the area. Alternate resources will be provided to assist with the fire suppression efforts.

The department has been advised that both the pilot and the co-pilot did not sustain any injuries as a result of the incident.

The incident has been reported to Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board. The Department of Transportation and Works will be conducting its own investigation.

The department will not be commenting further at this time. Should additional facts become available, the department will communicate them on a timely basis.
