TCH and Exit 12 to Pasadena to Receive Immediate Repairs

A tender has been issued for immediate repairs to the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) and Exit 12 to Pasadena. This section of the TCH sustained major damage as a result of record high water levels saturating the clay layer below that portion of highway.

“The initial engineering and geotechnical report reveals that the collapse occurred as a result of damage caused by extremely high water levels not seen in the area in more than 30 years,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works. “This tender includes the building of a berm and repairs to the TCH and Exit 12 to Pasadena. Geotechnical assessment will continue to be carried out during the remediation process.”

The tender was called on Friday, May 17, and will close Friday, May 24. The contract will be awarded on or before Monday, May 27, and the completion date is set for June 21, at which time the only work remaining will be paving of the highway. Asphalt will be tendered at a later date.

“This section of the TCH was built approximately 20 years ago and engineered to Canadian highway standards,” said Minister Davis. “We ask the public for continued patience and cooperation as the remediation work gets underway and we ask motorists to make safe driving their number one priority, particularly as they approach this and other work sites on the TCH and while driving through the Town of Pasadena.”
