Tender Called for Interior Work to Confederation Building

Mechanical and electrical system upgrades to the Confederation East Block will soon get underway with the release today of a tender for work within the tower of the building.

“Our government is pleased to begin the first phase of significant work to the interior systems of the Confederation Building,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works. “These upgrades are vital to protect the integrity of our capital building and to ensure this iconic structure is maintained for many years to come.”

The building is more than 50 years old with significant upgrades required to major mechanical and electrical systems throughout all floors. The tender calls for upgrades to electrical, heating, plumbing, ventilation, air conditioning and fire alarm systems. The tender closes June 5 with work anticipated to begin in July.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $26.7 million for ongoing and planned improvements at public buildings in Newfoundland and Labrador.
