Tourism Industry Energizes Province’s Vibrant Economy

Applications Being Accepted for Doug Wheeler Award

Applications are now being accepted for nominations for the Doug Wheeler Tourism Award in honour of Doug Wheeler, a provincial public service employee, who passed away in 1981. The annual award commemorates dedicated efforts to promote the province as a tourism destination.

“Each year, the Doug Wheeler Award is given to the person or group who has done the most in the past year to develop or promote the tourism industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, or to recognize long-standing service in the industry. For over 30 years, this prestigious award has been presented to a variety of tourism ambassadors throughout the province. I encourage nominations of the many incredible people, groups and organizations who contribute to the success of our province’s tourism industry.”
- The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation

The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2014. For more information about the award and for an application, visit: www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/tourism/tourism_development/doug_wheeler_award.html

The Doug Wheeler Award will be presented as part of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador’s Annual Conference and Trade Show taking place in Gander, February 26-28, 2014.

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
