Provincial Government Grant Supports New Brigus Walking Track

Avid walkers, residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy a new walking track in the Town of Brigus with support of a $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.

“The new eight-foot asphalt walking track in Brigus will allow people of all ages to enjoy the benefits of physical activity in a safe and inviting environment,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to be able to provide support of $15,000 through our Community Capital Grant Program for this worthwhile community project.”

The Town of Brigus is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“This funding will certainly enable residents of the town and surrounding communities to be able to become more physically active while enjoying the outdoors,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Harbour Main. “I commend the Provincial Government for providing this funding to the Town of Brigus for their new walking track.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador: A Recreation and Sport Strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
