Provincial Cricket Championship Decided

Team Green captured Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador’s Provincial Championship, the Atul Ahuja Cup, in a hard fought, low-scoring game on Sunday, September 1. Members of Team Green are Kaivallya Kulkarni (Captain), Gurman Khurana, Alex Dias, Sarvanna Kumar, Fahad Ijaz, Asim Kamran, Saad Shaifan Ahmed, Shameem Islam, Senthil Selvamani, Rajendar Dyapa and Kankayalian Thilayamplam.

The game was all but decided early on as Team Red chose to bat after winning the toss, and struggled against some excellent bowling from Senthil Selvamani and Shameem Islam. Senthil took four wickets and Shameem took three, as the Reds slumped to 26/8, and a partnership between top-scorer Waqas Hanif and Eldho Paul took the total past 50. The Reds were bowled out for 55, leaving the Greens a modest 56 to win. A steady opening partnership between Gurman Khurana and Rajender Dyapa took them nearly half way and, despite losing five wickets, the Greens cruised home with five overs to spare.
