New Recreation Area for Chance Cove
A $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program will provide residents of Chance Cove and the surrounding communities with a new recreation area.
“This $15,000 grant will go a long way to help offset the construction costs of a new recreation area for this community,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Chance Cove Recreation Committee will use this funding towards the purchase of new playground equipment, materials for a fence, a basketball court and a cookhouse.”
The Chance Cove Recreation Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“I am very pleased to see this year’s community recreation capital grant awarded to Chance Cove recreation,” said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. “This funding each year not only shows a commitment of government to recreation but it also gives towns and communities the ability to provide safe equipment that in turn increases opportunities for youth to participate in physical activity.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador: A Recreation and Sport Strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
