Province Proud of Team Newfoundland and Labrador

The 2013 Canada Summer Games came to a close this past weekend in Sherbrooke, Quebec, with Team Newfoundland and Labrador (Team NL) achieving two medal wins.

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today thanked the entire contingent for a solid performance and commended their efforts and dedication at the summer games.

“I cannot express the pride I felt when Team NL marched into the closing ceremonies in Sherbrooke on the weekend,” said Minister French. “Each one of the athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff are to be applauded for their performance at the Canada Summer Games, and I am delighted to say that many of our athletes achieved personal best performances and broke provincial records at this prestigious competition. Team NL proved to be wonderful ambassadors of sport for our province and I am sure these games have given them memories to last a lifetime and created numerous new friendships as well.”

Team NL brought home two medals. Swimmer Owen Daly won a silver medal in the men’s 50-metre butterfly and Special Olympic runner Chris Dugas won a bronze in the special Olympic men’s 200-metre.

The 2015 Canada Winter Games are set to take place in Prince George, British Columbia, February 13 – March 1, 2015.

The Canada Games were established in 1967 and Newfoundland and Labrador has been represented at every event since. The games are held every two years, alternating summer and winter.
