And They’re Off… Team Newfoundland and Labrador Headed
to the 2013 Canada Summer Games

Months of hard work and preparation are about to be put to the test as Team Newfoundland and Labrador travels to Sherbrooke, Quebec, to participate in the 2013 Canada Summer Games, taking place August 2-17. A delegation of more than half of the 360 athletes, volunteers, coaches, managers and mission staff left today, while the remaining team members depart on Saturday, August 10, for the second week of competition.

“Team Newfoundland and Labrador comprises the best this province has to offer in sport,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “I wish the entire team the greatest success as they compete in this prestigious sporting event. I congratulate all the athletes for earning the right to represent our province at the games, and want to thank all the coaches and managers, mission staff, volunteers and parents for their commitment in helping these young men and women develop their athletic talents.”

During the first week, Team Newfoundland and Labrador will compete in baseball, mountain biking, sailing, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, men’s basketball and women’s soccer. In the second week, athletes will compete in athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, diving, golf, rowing, triathlon, men’s soccer and women’s basketball.
