Value of Recreation to Province…Priceless!
June is Recreation Month in the province, and the Provincial Government
is working with Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador to build awareness
around the immeasurable benefits of recreational activities. This year’s
theme, Recreation is Priceless, highlights the value of recreation to
individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities.
“Our government places a considerable emphasis on the value of recreation in
Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of
Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Our goal is to increase physical activity
in our province, and the strong relationship we have cultivated with our
sport and recreation partners such as Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador
is important for helping achieve this aim. We want to ensure recreation has
a focus well beyond the month of June each year.”
Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador recently held its 42nd annual general
meeting and conference in Corner Brook, at which time Minister French signed
a proclamation for Recreation Month.
“This year’s theme is quite fitting, as the significance of recreation in
people’s lives, both individually and as groups, is indeed priceless,” said
Dawn Sharpe, President of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Recreation leaders in our communities provide valuable recreational
activities, and these opportunities provide a host of benefits to all
involved. We want to articulate the message that recreation is for
everyone.”
