Labrador Straits Arena Receives Financial Boost

Residents of L’Anse au Loup and the surrounding area will soon see some renovations and upgrades to the Labrador Straits Arena thanks in part to a $15,000 grant provided by the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.

“This $15,000 grant will be used to offset the costs associated with general maintenance, replacing rink boards, installation of rubber floor matting and repairs to the arena’s exterior,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation.

“With these upgrades the facility will operate more efficiently and provide increased opportunities for residents and community organizations to participate in various sporting events and recreational activities.”

The Labrador Straits Arena Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“The work to be completed as a result of this grant will lead to welcomed improvements to this facility that serves the people of L’Anse au Loup and other nearby communities,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “Sport and recreation opportunities help to contribute to active lifestyles and healthy communities and I am pleased that the Labrador Straits Arena is benefiting through this investment.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the provincial sport and recreation strategy, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
