Glovertown Academy is the host school for the Provincial Badminton Championships. Eight teams will be competing to determine the team champion. Each encounter in the team competition will consist of five matches: Girls Singles, Boys Singles, Girls Doubles, Boys Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The first encounter will start at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9. Teams are divided into two divisions. Division A teams includes Menihek High (Labrador City), Baccalieu Collegiate (Old Perlican), Canon Richards Memorial (Flower’s Cove) and Bayside Academy (Port Hope Simpson). Division B teams include the host, Glovertown Academy, Copper Ridge Academy (Baie Verte), St. Lawrence Academy and Belanger Memorial (Doyles). Playoff games start at 3:00 p.m. and championship game at 3:45 p.m.

There is also an individual competition taking place that will feature athletes from the above named schools, as well as, J. C. Erhardt School (Makkovik), Dorset Collegiate (Pilley’s Island), St. Lewis Academy (St. Lewis) Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts), St. Peters Academy (Westport), St. Mary’s All Grade (Mary’s Harbour), Gros Morne Academy(Rocky Harbour) and Eric G. Lambert School (Churchill Falls). Individual play will begin by 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will continue into Saturday. All regional coaches will aid in the creation of the individual draws. Each draw will have eight entries, so each event will have quarter finals, semi-finals and finals. There is no consolation round - single knock out format.

In addition to the gold and silver School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador (SSNL) medals, a championship banner will be awarded to the winning team. SSNL believes strongly in the values and principles of sportsmanship. In recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be presented to one individual from each team. All teams (coaches and players) will vote to recognize a team who has displayed great sportsmanship, as well. This team is awarded the Team Sportsmanship Banner.

School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador tournaments are made possible, in part, because of the generous support of corporate sponsors. Subway and Dairy Farmers Assoc./School Milk Foundation are sponsors of SSNL.
