Upgrades Coming for Popular Park and Walking Trails in Whitbourne
The Sir Robert Bond Park and area walking trails in the town of Whitbourne will see some new upgrades through the support of a $15,000 grant from the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.
"This $15,000 grant will be used to purchase new picnic tables and replace the gazebo, as well as provide upgrades to the park’s walking trails," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "Green spaces and walking trails help citizens of all ages benefit from opportunities to increase their level of daily physical activity, and we are pleased to support this valuable project."
The Whitbourne Sports and Recreation Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“The Sir Robert Bond Park in Whitbourne is one of the Avalon Peninsula’s greatest natural resources,” said the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister for Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for Placentia-St. Mary’s. “This funding will help enhance the natural beauty of the park and make it more accessible to the general public.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the provincial sport and recreation strategy, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
